Visitor flow from Malaysia increases fivefold in one year

Kazakhstan is strengthening its position on the tourism map of Southeast Asia. According to the results of 2024, the number of visitors from Malaysia increased more than fivefold compared to the previous year. This is the result of a successful partnership between the national company Kazakh Tourism and the Malaysian airline AirAsia X.

Last year, Kazakhstan attracted a record number of visitors from Malaysia — over 17,000 people. In 2023, this figure stood at 3,343. Interest in traveling to Kazakhstan is also actively growing among tourists from Singapore and Indonesia. Considering the high demand for tickets to Almaty, the airline is increasing the frequency of flights to five times a week.

«Kazakhstan is becoming an increasingly attractive destination not only for tourists but also for international business. The direct air connection with Kuala Lumpur has opened new horizons for tourism and business exchanges. Our partnership with AirAsia X provides Kazakhstan with access to the growing market of the entire Southeast Asia region. Thousands of travelers are discovering the breathtaking landscapes and rich culture of our country», - noted Shyryn Musina, Managing Director of Kazakh Tourism.

The airline is actively promoting travel to Kazakhstan in Southeast Asian countries. Since the launch of the direct connection between Kuala Lumpur and Almaty in March last year, AirAsia X has transported over 100,000 passengers between the two countries.

«The increase in flight frequency between Kuala Lumpur and Almaty is due to high demand and the growing popularity of the city of Almaty, which has recently been recognized as a must-visit destination by CNN and Lonely Planet. Travelers from across the ASEAN region can now comfortably take the next flight to the ‘Switzerland of Central Asia’ with a short layover in Kuala Lumpur. This strengthens our commitment to providing more accessible travel options, contributing to the development of tourism and economic exchange throughout the region», - emphasized Benyamin Ismail, CEO of AirAsia X.

It is worth noting that in 2024, Kazakh Tourism and AirAsia X established a partnership and signed an agreement to develop cooperation.
