Kazakh Tourism is developing a tourism development concept for the Baikonur complex
Baikonur has the potential to become a global platform of the future and a hub for event-based, scientific, and industrial tourism. In the anniversary year of the legendary cosmodrome, Kazakh Tourism has presented a draft Tourism Development Concept for the Baikonur Complex. The document is aimed at developing the tourism ecosystem during the inter-launch periods and integrating the site into Kazakhstan’s cultural and educational agenda.
The draft was presented at the facilitation session “Baikonur: from Silk Way to Milky Way,” which brought together representatives from the tourism industry, science, business, and the public sector. Participants discussed the development of regular tours, infrastructure improvements, creation of new routes, strengthening the Baikonur brand, attracting investment, and developing partnerships.
«Baikonur is gaining a vector for future development — aligned with its integration into Kazakhstan’s tourism, educational, and scientific agenda. We have a clear vision of Baikonur as a global platform of the future, combining a cultural and diplomatic mission, museum transformation, and brand development. We place special emphasis on developing inter-launch tours. This will help ensure a steady flow of tourists, increase the efficiency of infrastructure use, and reduce seasonal pressure on the complex’s logistics», -said Kairat Sadvakassov, Head of Kazakh Tourism.
It should be noted that in 2025, a consortium began operating with the participation of Kazakh Tourism and the RSE “Infracos” of the Aerospace Committee of the MIID of the Republic of Kazakhstan for the joint development of space tourism, astrotourism, and cultural and educational tourism at the Baikonur complex sites.
