Visitor flow from Japan increases by 38%: tourism industry aims to expand cooperation
Kazakhstan is strengthening its position on the tourism map of East Asia. In 2024, the country welcomed over 9,200 visitors from Japan, which is a 38% increase compared to the previous year. The growing flow indicates the potential of this direction, and representatives of Kazakhstan’s tourism industry intend to expand partnerships with key players in Japan’s travel market.
A series of bilateral meetings were held in Tokyo and Osaka between Kazakhstani tour operators and leading representatives of the Japanese tourism market. Tour operators Skyway, Kompass, and MLtour, together with the national airline Air Astana, presented Kazakhstan’s tourism opportunities to companies such as HIS, JATA, JTB, Otomo Travel, Tairiku Travel, All Seasons Travel, and others. During the negotiations, tourism products and destinations were showcased to Japanese partners.
The Kazakh delegation also took part in the business program at the site of EXPO 2025 in Japan. A B2B meeting between Kazakhstani tour operators and representatives of tourism companies from Osaka was organized by the national company «Kazakh Tourism» with the support of QazExpoCongress. During the event, Air Astana, the multifunctional tourist complex «Karavansaray Turkistan» and the tourist information center «Open Turkistan» presented their tourism offerings.
«There is a growing interest in our country from the Japanese audience, and we plan to actively develop cooperation with Japanese companies. This is an important direction in which we aim to unlock Kazakhstan’s tourism potential and strengthen bilateral ties. Kazakh Tourism facilitates effective dialogue between the tourism industries of both countries», - said acting Chairman of the Management Board of NC «Kazakh Tourism» Daniel Serzhanuly.
The meetings held demonstrate the interest from Japanese companies and create opportunities for the development of joint projects in the Japanese market.
