Kazakhstan’s gastronomic tourism attracts international media attention

The project «Chefs on Wheels» will showcase our national cuisine to the 20-million audience of Channel One. Renowned chefs Alexey Kanevsky and Ilya Burnasov visited Kazakhstan as part of the international season of the television program. Astana and Almaty became the 116th and 117th cities on the route of this gastronomic journey.

«Chefs on Wheels» will introduce viewers to the rich gastronomic culture of our country - from traditional recipes to original interpretations in the neo-nomad style.

The show’s chefs visited cultural landmarks and gastronomic locations highlighted by the international online guide 50 Best Discover - Qazaq Gourmet in Astana and Auyl in Almaty. In the southern metropolis, the film crew was hosted by a local chef’s family, where they experienced Kazakh hospitality and observed the preparation of homemade dishes. The hot springs of Alma-Arasan were also captured on camera. In addition, the guests tried go-karting on a professional racing track and took part in rope jumping from heights.

In Astana, viewers will see the capital’s iconic landmarks - the Bayterek monument, the National Museum, and the largest mosque in Central Asia. An important part of the episode was a joint city route tour with representatives of Kazakhstan’s cycling and motorsports federations.

«Today, gastronomic tourism is becoming an important component of the tourism industry. Leading international media are showing active interest in Kazakh national cuisine. This year, several foreign media outlets from China, Italy, and other countries have prepared special features about our culinary culture. They all come to Kazakhstan and enthusiastically share stories about Kazakh gastronomy with their audiences. Together with regional tourism departments, we provide comprehensive support»,- said Daniel Serzhanuly, Acting Chairman of the Management Board of JSC NC Kazakh Tourism.

The filming in Kazakhstan was part of the new international season of the project, dedicated to the gastronomic tourism of CIS countries. The television episodes about our country will air in January 2026. The filming was supported by the tourism departments of the cities of Astana and Almaty.
