Italian fashion with a nomadic soul: kazakh culture inspires designers around the world

In Italy, a clothing collection titled Yurt has been released, featuring Kazakh ornaments and elements inspired by traditional yurts. The founders of the brand visited Kazakhstan, where they conducted photo and video shoots in some of the country’s most popular tourist destinations.

The Italian fashion brand Milang has unveiled its first men’s collection incorporating Kazakh symbolism. The brand’s founder, a native of Kazakhstan who has lived in Europe for many years, spent a year developing a concept that reflects not only current fashion trends but also the deep cultural roots of his homeland.

The boundless steppe, traditional patterns, and the atmosphere of the yurt — a symbol of freedom and warmth — served as inspiration for the Italian designer. The collection aims to create a connection between lifestyle, travel, and a harmonious balance with nature.

«This first collection is a tribute to our roots. Yurt is the story of Kazakhstan told through design, textures, and the color palette of nature. It includes elements of traditional Kazakh ornamentation, inspired by ancient carved patterns found in wooden and yurt details. Embroidery and decorative stitching on the garments echo nomadic symbols, while the textures of the fabrics resemble natural materials traditionally used in the clothing of steppe peoples. Every detail reflects a deep connection to heritage, creating a balance between modern style and centuries-old traditions. Like the yurt itself, we, together with Guzal Normatova, crafted the pieces exclusively from natural materials — cashmere, silk, cotton, and fittings made from natural horn. This gives the garments a special quality and emphasizes their profound bond with nature», - said MILANG founder Vitaliy Lang.

The project received support from Kazakh Tourism and the Creative Innovation Institute, who helped organize the shoots in Kazakhstan — at the Shymbulak ski resort and Charyn national park.

«We are always glad to support initiatives that promote Kazakhstan’s natural and cultural heritage through the lens of global industries. The Yurt collection shows that our nature and traditions can inspire global fashion», - said Kazakh Tourism Chairman Kairat Sadvakassov.
